| "I came to Marshall in June 1995 as a co-op student while I was working on my Ph.D. at M.I.T. Ive been working at the Global Hydrology and Climate Center (GHCC), a cooperative venture between Marshall, the University of Alabama at Huntsville, and Universities Space. Research Association that investigates global and regional scale climate studies. One focus is observing lightening from space. Right now, we have experiments on several orbital missions. Eventually, we hope to fly our sensors on a geostationary satellite, providing round-the-clock lightning coverage of the Western Hemisphere.
"My job includes calibrating the data and developing software for end users, as well as figuring out how to use the data for quantitative scientific inferences of thunderstorms properties. Marshall and the GHCC have a wonderful work environment much like a professional research institution. I work with scientists and engineers from the private sector and academia, as well as with other government scientists. I also get to participate in educational outreach with grade school, high school, and undergraduate students, both when they visit our facilities and when we visit local schools.
"Huntsville is home to a variety of high-tech industries and universities and is a hot spot for defense-related activities. It has a very low cost of living and is often ranked one of the best places to live in the South and Southeast." |
